Today's Stoic Thought

“Start living in discomfort. Gradually increase it little by little, and you will steadily grow. If you want sudden growth, deluge yourself in great discomfort and do not retreat from it. The more discomfort you are willing to bear, the more you can grow. ”
@TheAncientSage

In modern life, this Stoic idea can be applied to personal growth and pushing ourselves out of our comfort zones. For example, if you have a fear of public speaking, start by speaking up in small group discussions, then gradually work your way up to giving a presentation to a larger audience. By embracing discomfort and facing your fears head-on, you can expand your capabilities and grow as an individual.

Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope,
Romans 5:3-4 ESV

The verse highlights the idea of persevering through challenges and hardships, which is similar to the notion of embracing discomfort and pushing oneself out of the comfort zone to foster personal growth. By facing difficulties with courage and determination, one can develop resilience and character, ultimately leading to growth and maturity. This aligns with the Stoic pillar of Courage, as it emphasizes the importance of confronting fears and challenges to cultivate inner strength and fortitude.
