Today's Stoic Thought

“By contemplating the impermanence of everything in the world, we are forced to recognize that every time we do something could be the last time we do it, and this recognition can invest the things we do with a significance and intensity that would otherwise be absent. William B.”
Irvine

In our daily interactions with loved ones, acknowledging the impermanence of their presence can deepen our appreciation for the time we spend with them. This realization can encourage us to be more present and affectionate, making each interaction more meaningful. For example, when saying goodbye to a friend or family member, take a moment to truly cherish the moment, understanding it might be the last time you see them.

yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.
James 4:14 ESV

The verse reinforces the idea of recognizing the impermanence of life and the importance of living in the present moment. By understanding that our lives are like a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away, we are encouraged to make the most of each moment and not take our time for granted.
