Today's Stoic Thought
“What you’re supposed to do when you don’t like a thing is change it. If you can’t change it, change the way you think about it. Don’t complain.”
In modern life, if you dislike your commute to work, you can try changing your route or mode of transportation. If that's not an option, shift your perspective and use the time to listen to podcasts or audiobooks instead of dwelling on the traffic. Complaining about the situation won't make it any more bearable, but taking action or changing your attitude can make a difference.
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
The verse encourages focusing on whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable. Instead of complaining about a situation, it is wiser to shift our thoughts and perspective towards more positive and productive things, just like in the Stoic quote.
