Today's Stoic Thought

“To complain is always nonacceptance of what is.”
Eckhart Tolle

In modern life, when we complain about traffic, we resist the reality of the situation - it doesn't make the traffic move faster. Instead, accepting the traffic allows us to find peace and maybe use the time to listen to a podcast or enjoy music.

Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned, in whatever situation I am, to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need.
Philippians 4:11-12 ESV

The apostle Paul learned the secret of being content in every situation, whether well fed or hungry, in plenty or in want. This demonstrates temperance, the Stoic pillar of self-control and acceptance of what is, aligning with the idea of not complaining and accepting the present moment as it is.
