Today's Stoic Thought

“We are bacteria to the universe. We’re basically monkeys on a small rock orbiting a small backwards star in a huge galaxy, which is in an absolutely staggeringly gigantic universe, which itself may be part of a gigantic multiverse.”
Naval Ravikant

In our vast universe, our daily worries and stressors can seem trivial in comparison. Remembering our place in the grand scheme of things can help us gain perspective and not get overwhelmed by small setbacks. For example, when stuck in traffic, remind yourself of the immense scale of the universe and how inconsequential this momentary delay truly is in the bigger picture.

When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?
Psalm 8:3-4 ESV

Psalm 8:3-4 reflects the idea that in the grandeur of the universe, human beings are small and insignificant. This realization can lead to wisdom in understanding our place in the world and the importance of focusing on things of eternal value rather than temporary concerns.
