Today's Stoic Thought

“If you seek tranquility, do less. Or (more accurately) do what’s essential – what the reason of a social being requires, and in the requisite way. Which brings a double satisfaction: to do less, better.”
Marcus Aurelius

In modern life, we often feel pressured to constantly be busy and productive. However, by focusing on what is truly essential and aligning our actions with reason and social duty, we can find tranquility in doing less but doing it well. For example, instead of filling our schedules with countless tasks, we can choose to prioritize tasks that truly matter and excel in their execution, leading to greater peace of mind and fulfillment.

do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7 ESV

The Bible verse reinforces the idea of seeking tranquility by encouraging believers to not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, through prayer and petition, present their requests to God, which will bring about God's peace that transcends all understanding. This aligns with the Stoic pillar of Wisdom as it emphasizes the importance of aligning one's actions with reason and duty to find peace and fulfillment.
