Today's Stoic Thought

“Fragile egos make for fragile friendships. ”
@TheStoicEmperor

In modern life, the idea that fragile egos make for fragile friendships can be seen when someone takes constructive criticism personally and ends a friendship over it. For example, if a friend offers feedback on another friend's work, and the person takes offense and cuts ties instead of seeing it as a chance to grow, the friendship may not withstand challenges. It's a reminder to cultivate inner strength and resilience to maintain strong and meaningful relationships.

The ear that listens to life-giving reproof will dwell among the wise.
Proverbs 15:31 ESV

The verse in Proverbs 15:31 reflects the importance of accepting constructive criticism and growing from it. It takes courage to listen to feedback without letting our egos get in the way, ultimately leading to stronger and more resilient relationships. Developing the courage to face our weaknesses and learn from them is key to fostering lasting friendships.
