“Problems only exist in the human mind.”
Anthony de Mello

In modern life, the idea that problems only exist in the human mind can be seen when someone stresses about a future event that hasn't even happened yet, causing unnecessary anxiety and worry. For example, worrying about a job interview that is weeks away can create unnecessary stress and negative emotions.

do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7 ESV

Through the pillar of Wisdom, Stoicism teaches that problems often stem from our perceptions and judgements rather than external events. Similarly, in Philippians 4:6-7, Christians are encouraged to bring their concerns to God in prayer, recognizing that peace comes from aligning our minds and hearts with the truth of His love and sovereignty. By seeking wisdom in both Stoic philosophy and Scripture, individuals can learn to discern which problems are real and which are mere fabrications of the mind, finding peace and strength in the process.
